Tapestry Ink Collision

If you’ve had a look at our new website, you may have refreshed the page a few times to watch the colourful clouds crash into each other over and over again, while trying to figure out exactly what was happening. Well, now you can worry no longer as we explain what you’re seeing and the short version of the story behind it.

After several ‘heated’ meetings, where ideas and biscuits were thrown around the boardroom. We decided that we needed a bold video clip that would demonstrate the new look and feel, while at the same time giving a nod to our history and roots.

Tapestry was born during the ink and paper era of the print industry, and as we branch out into new digital medias, we will always remember how far we have come. The new visual shows two ink squirts colliding to create a spectacular bloom of colour and clouds.

To create the ink bloom we went very traditional with our methods, we armed ourselves with a fish tank full of water, a few syringes of ink and a crafty bit of editing. In the studio, we set up a fish tank full of water and created custom ‘syringe holding blocks’ to ensure the ink collided at the same height. We set up our very swanky phase one camera and all that was needed now was a well co-ordinated 3… 2… 1… and a good squeeze on the syringes. Beautiful.

With the video footage all filmed, we handed it over to our Video Production team, who colour graded the image to bring out a deeper colour and accentuate the shadows and highlights of the clouds. The final stop for the footage was with our Design team, who conducted some cleaning and polishing to give it a final once over before it was sealed away, for its debut on the new site.

We feel the ink clip personifies our heritage, which we are very proud of, hence its home on our landing page. This graphic is the result of much deliberation, feuds, shouting matches and broken biscuits.
